Built on a Weak Spot - April 2009
This is a pretty excellent offering from the Clifton, New Jersey residents RSO that I seemingly missed out on completely last year when this record was actually released. It's a shame too because this is one fine jumbled mess of weirdo noise-rock that sort of finds its home in that AmRep or Boner Records area of things. It has kind of a cool bluesy sort of miserable existence vibe that is carried out very well through the albums seven songs (nine if you're listening to the included CD). The inclusion of a saxophone here and there on some of the tracks is a nice touch and definitely gives it an added feeling of dejectedness. I had planned on writing about this record at some point, however the idea was expedited into word form a bit whenever I got home the other night and walked into the kitchen only to flip on the light and notice that someone had removed the lights and replaced them with this dingy cold blue-ish tinted "energy saving" light that had the warmth of walking into a mortuary. Oddly enough, the song "Drag" from this album popped into my head not long after. The nine minute track definitely lives up to its name, scrapping along with the monotonous hammering of guitar noise and singer who sounds as if he's hanging on by a string. Just some wonderfully crafted downcast punk/noise-rock.
